Landlocked Developing Countries

There are 32 landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) across Africa, Asia and South America, and Europe. Lacking direct territorial access to the sea, these nations face unique challenges: remoteness from world markets, high transit and trade costs, and dependence on neighbours' infrastructure for international commerce.

Despite these structural disadvantages, LLDCs are home to over 500 million people and represent some of the fastest-growing economies on the continent. Landlinked brings together World Bank indicators, CIA Factbook profiles, and group analytics to track their progress across trade, connectivity, education, climate, and economic development.
